Simply put, about 11 years ago, chiropractic changed my life! In 7th grade I was diagnosed with scoliosis and by the time I was 16, I was given no answers from my medical doctor just several pain-relieving prescriptions to “treat” my ongoing back pain. After I was told in my early 20’s that the possibility of me carrying a child would be highly unlikely, I knew I needed a permanent fix, not just a temporary band-aid. Fortunately, I found it!
It wasn’t until a car accident at 19 that I found chiropractic and the rest is history. Since then I’ve been an active chiropractic patient and through my early experiences, I decided that I needed to make chiropractic my career choice.
I’ve learned natural alternatives for nearly every ailment and created a healthy lifestyle for my two boys, Kellen, 7, Cortez, 11 months and my husband, Curtis and I. We regularly take our supplements and receive routine adjustments to maintain our spine and keep our immune system functioning optimally.
It’s not only my personal experiences that excite me, but being witness to the patients experience their own life-changing goals is what I enjoy most about my job! How fortunate I am to work in an environment where people come to reach that elevated level of physical and emotional wellness and learn how to maintain it. I can’t imagine where I’d be without chiropractic as the basis of my overall health.
If you’ve experienced the temporary band-aid response and/or have some health challenges, please don’t hesitate to contact our Plano chiropractic office. I look forward to sharing my passion for chiropractic with you.
Chiropractic Assistant - Deja Erwin

My journey to a healthy, holistic lifestyle started with HealthWorks. While attending Baylor University, I became very fascinated with midwifery and chiropractic care. I have been searching for my life path since I graduated and have found my way.
I had ACL and cartilage replacement done during the winter of 2011. It was the worst time of my life and I couldn't bear the pain. Low and behold, I was introduced to Dr. Porterfield and Dr. Taylor, and thought to myself, “I need their help'”. Although I had been a patient for only a short period of time, I could see and feel results and could see the light at the end of the tunnel. At that moment I realized I wanted to part of something bigger. I have always had a passion for helping, and am a firm believer that it’s our own experiences that allow us to give and heal others. One Monday afternoon, an opportunity presented itself, and I became part of the HealthWorks family.
I am very grateful to the doctors here at HealthWorks. But most importantly, I am grateful to my other half, Tim, who not only introduced me to the Doctors, but has been my eyes as I restore my vision.
