The Doctor Asks...
Plano Chiropractor, Dr. Christy Porterfield
I wish I had known then what I know now; I tend to learn life’s lessons the hard way! Fortunately, the years have taught me a few lessons about health & wellness lifestyle that I’m eager to share with you and your family.
Unlike most students, I started out my college career knowing EXACTLY what I wanted to do: become a Chiropractor extraordinaire, a health maven of sorts. At the time I had a sweet baby boy, perfect in every way…except, he was always sick! Snotty noses and ear infections were the norm, and I was frustrated with round-after-round of antibiotics; it was never ending! That was when I learned about Chiropractic care and the role it plays in creating a healthy body, including a long history of clearing up ear infections.
I took Taylor, my son, to the local chiropractor and learned that he did, in fact, have subluxations which were causing a lowered level of health in his body. Following his very first adjustment, Taylor no longer had ear infections. This may seem like a small thing for some families, but for us it was nothing short of a miracle. Health is our most precious commodity, and this was now something we were able to give Taylor. A short three years after Taylor’s first adjustment, I was enrolled at Parker College of Chiropractic here in Dallas, Texas.
Because of my own experiences with Taylor and later my other sons, Logan and Josh, I am extremely passionate about family health and wellness. Our mission statement starts with, “HealthWorks creates a community of health and wellness for our practice members”. It is my firm belief that our families deserve a level of health that allows them to live a life full of potential and growth.
Outside of the office, I am more commonly known as ‘Mom’ than ‘Dr. Porterfield.’
I live in Plano with my sweet husband, Terry Flick, and our three boys: Logan, Taylor and Josh. Terry and I met in 2007 through a mutual hobby of photography. We both posted our photos to the web here: Christy and Terry.
We attend church at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in West Plano, and enjoy participating in their many volunteer and fellowship opportunities which allow us to be a part of making Plano a better place for all of us to live.
Living a wellness lifestyle
As a family, we’ve made a decision to live a wellness lifestyle. For us this includes: weekly adjustments, organic fruits and veggies, cooking at home, no medications (over the counter or otherwise), no vaccinations, taking our vitamins, getting enough rest, sunshine and exercise. Terry’s an avid mountain bike rider, I’m in love with Bikram Yoga, and all three boys love swimming.
Enough about me! HealthWorks is about YOU… I consider myself an excellent listener and hope I get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your health journey, whether you’re experiencing a challenge, or just looking to join a community that will exponentially increase your health for a lifetime!
